Hab mal unsere Elektronik gefragt und die Antwort war ernüchternd:
Die Zeit für solche "prmitiven" Bausätze sind längst vorbei. Heute gibt es fast nur noch fertig programmierte Bausätze, da es in der Herstellung preislich keinen Unterschied mehr macht und man sich auch gleich Supportanfragen spart.
Empfehlung war komplett selbst entwickeln, ist zwar geringfügig teurer und zeitaufwendiger, dafür lernt man erheblich mehr. Kleiner 8Bit-Microcontroller, Platine, bischen Drumherum und viel Geduld...
Ist ja noch etwas Zeit bis Weihnachten ;)

Entscheidend ist der Microcontroller und da machst Du mit Atmel generell keinen Fehler. Ob Dir das "Drumherum" bei C-Control zusagt, musst Du selbst entscheiden, ich weiss ja nicht was Dir genau vorschwebt ;)

Ja, sind ATMega, allerdings je nach C-Control-Paket unterschiedliche.
Wenn Du Dich auf Assembler oder C beschränken möchtest, dann kann ich Dir die kostenlose Atmel-IDE empfehlen. Allerdings weiss ich nicht, ob es die auch für Mac gibt, notfalls halt in Deiner Win-VM installieren.

Würde erstmal über UDP zum laufen bringen.
String zum Controller schicken .bzw Empfangen.
Stirng selber dann im Controller Zerlegen.
1 Byte Adresse
2 Byte Befehl
3 Byte Paramter
4 Byte Prüfsumme
Damit kannst du dann schonmal schalten und walten.
TCP ist da schon ein wenig unbehaglicher. Aber normalerweise
ist der Stack ja schon fertig und wird nur noch angepasst.
(jedenfall gibt es ein paar IP Stacks für Atmel)

Im Prinzip aber auch nur ein AVR mit Hünerfutter.
Da ist eher das Software Framwork interesannt um schnell
