Ich lese mich gerade ein um mysql 4.0 auf 4.1 zu bringen. Was empfiehlt sich, die RPM Installation oder die fertigen Binary's ?

Selbst kompilieren ist normalerweise auch meine erste Wahl.

Also mein Plan sieht so aus:
Backup von /var/lib/mysql
Backup von /etc/my.cnf
Konfigurieren, Kompilieren und Installieren von MySQL
Neu kompilieren und installieren von PHP
hab ich was vergessen?

ich würde die db's dumpen, ist afaik gerade bei versions änderungen sichere ...

Ja, das Rekompilieren aller gegen MySQL gelinkten Pakete. Desweiteren solltest Du, wie Lufthansen bereits schrieb, die DBs per mysqldump sichern, da sich (IIRC) das Fileformat zwischen 4.0 und 4.1 geändert hat.Powie wrote:hab ich was vergessen?

Die vorkompilierten Binaries sind doch um einiges schneller

Wenn sich die Filestruktur bei 4.1 gegenüber 4.0 geändert hat muss ich also alle Datenbanken/Tabellen mit dem Dump wieder herstellen?

Also früher hab ich auch alles selbst kompiliert... aber mittlerweile bin ich dazu über gegangen die Paketsysteme der Distributionen zu benutzten. Alles andere wird im Laufe der Zeit und mit mehr Servern einfach zu unübersichtlich. Auch wenn dadurch ein paar %te Performance verloren gehen.

Die meisten Promille Performanceunterschied wird ein Standarduser sowieso nie benötigen.....

Auf meiner Checkliste ist jetzt noch ein Fragezeichen bei Confixx. das hat ja auch teilweise beziehungen mit bestimmten libs. Muss ich da auch was tun?

guck malauf der confixx seite da steht was zu den unterstütztend mysql versionen
