Kann mann mit PHP Excel-dateien einlesen (möglichst ohne modul)? Wenn ja wie?

AFAIK nein. Vor allem wohl auch weil Excel in proprietäres Format ist.
Hmm wobei ich glaub, dass die in einer der neueren Version auch auf XML umgestellt haben. Schau dir halt mal so ein Excel-Dokument an und dann schreib dir einen Parser dafür. Weitaus einfacher ist es IMHO allerdings, wenn du nur mit CSV Datein arbeitest, wenns nur auf die Daten und nicht auf die Formatierung ankommt.

Dann werd ich mir die dann mal noch reinziehn. Hört sich auf jeden Fall sehr gut an.Geht das dann auch mit Excel-Dateien früherer Excel Versionen oder nur mit aktuellen?

Es gibt Software im Internet, die ExelDateien auslesen kann und die Einträge in eine MySQL DB schreibt... Einfach mal bei Google suchen; ich weiß nicht mehr wie das Programm hieß, weil ich es neulich deinstalliert habe!
