P. S: OS/2 habe ich nach 2.1 nicht mehr angefasst, Warp und eComStation sind komplett an mir vorbeigegangen. Und AIX - na ja, das wünschte ich mir nur zurück, wenn ich sonst HPUX verwenden müsste... :D

Ein aufpoliertes AIX-OS/2 sollte zumindest MacOS X in relativ kurzer Zeit weitestgehend vom Markt fegen können. Denn schlecht waren/sind weder AIX noch OS/2 und eine AIX-Basis mit einem aufgehübschten OS/2-GUI hätte durchaus Potential (auf dem Desktop) ;)
Und IBM ist in diesem Bereich wirklich Einiges zuzutrauen...

Na ja, IBM hat AIX in den letzten Jahren nicht gerade liebevoll gepflegt - der Linux-Hype ist zwar vorbei, aber so ein bisschen konzentriert man sich dort gerade auf virtuelle Unix-VMs unter ZOS (zumindest mein subjektiver Eindruck). Realistischer wäre daher wohl, dass ein bereits x86(_64)-taugliches *NIX (wahrscheinlich Linux, mit BSD hat(te) IBM bisher nix am Hut) mit dem eComStation Gui gepaart wird - auch irgendwie gruselig :lol: Das auf jeden Fall. Die werden schön regelmäßig als antiquiiert abgeschrieben, aber mit jeder Krise am IT-Markt hat sich Big Blue als solider und überlebensfähiger als die Konkurrenz gezeigt. Ich will auf meine MacOs X nicht verzichten wollen.
So einen Rückschlag würde ich Apple aber schon gönnen, dann merken sie vielleicht mal, dass man für gutes Geld auch gute Produkte liefern muss und nicht nur hübsch verpackte und billig gefertigte iMidware...

Wenn um den Desktop geht, dann keiner kann mich überzeugen andere als Linux/Unix freie Distribution zu verwenden. BlingBling wie bei MacOSX oder Win7, sind schon lange her in KDE4/Gnome packete.

Win7 ist für den Desktop gar nicht schlecht. Das BlingBling beziehungsweise die Desktopeffekte hatten KDE und Gnome übrigens nicht vor Microsoft oder Apple, sondern erst ein paar Jahre später. Bei Microsoft hatte man schon 1998 die ersten Desktopeffekte fertig entwickelt, es gab nur noch keinen Markt dafür. Der Markt kam erst langsam während der Entwicklungsphase von WinXP und wurde dann mit WinVista auch von Microsoft bedient. Bei Apple war es zeitlich ähnlich, nur hat Apple auf Grund seiner kürzeren Release-Zyklen die Effekte in kleineren Häppchen nebenbei eingeführt.
Open-Source ist wirklich eine gute und wichtige Sache, hängt den wichtigen Innovationen aber oft um Jahre hinterher.
