Installation von MySQL schlägt fehl...

Hallo Root-Forum Gemeinde,
wie ich ja bereits http://forum.rootforum.de/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=50667 beschrieben habe, hab ich Probleme mit meinem MySQL Server. Da ich mir nicht weiter zu helfen wusste, habe ich versucht den MySQL Server einfach mal neu zu installieren - leider funktioniert auch das nicht, aber der Reihe nach:
Im /var/log/daemon.log ist einem Bekannten, den ich um Rat gefragt habe, folgendes aufgefallen.
Das mysql.pid File ist falsch, hier steht in meiner my.cnf steht aber
drin.
Ich habe dann alles von mysql mittel entfernt Das mysql-common Paket hat eine menge Abhängigkeiten, um nur das zu entfernen bin ich so vorgegangen
Anschließend das ganze System nach mysql , bzw. *frm durchsucht und gelöscht, was direkt zu mysql gehört.
Danach habe ich mysql-common wieder installiert.
Oder der mysql-server-5.0 doch nicht richtig vom System gelöscht, da beim "dpkg -l" ein "in" davor steht??
Da die Installation vom mysql Server anschließen mich nach einem Passwort gefragt hat, bin ich nach der Anleitunghttp://serversupportforum.de/forum/183023-post2.html vorgangen, und habe die old_password.cnf angelegt,danach kam keine Passwort abfrage, die Installation vom mysql-Server bleibt aber beim prescript von Mysql hängen.

Und hier bleibt es hängen, wenn ich mittels "ps -ef | grep mysql" in einer anderen Konsole mir die Prozesse anschaue, erscheint:
Die mysql.pid ist zwar mittlerweile wieder korrekt - aber das hilft mir wenig wenn der Server nicht läuft. Im Daemon.log steht folgendens

Nach circa 60min kommt das Checking
Aber mehr passiert nicht....weißt hier vielleicht wer rat??? Oder hat einen Hinweis / Tipp??

UPDATE:
Ich habe den mysql Installprozess um 19:21Uhr gestartet - und die letzte Aktivität war um 20:02Uhr, lt. ps -ef|grep mysql
Ich habe die hängende Installation dann mit STRG+C um 21:00Uhr abgebrochen:
Laut ps -ef | grep mysql, läuft der Daemon
Aber, was ja zu erwarten war
Der Fehler scheint also irgendwo im Post-Installscript liegen....
Hoffentlich hat wer einen Hinweis für mich....
