Probleme beim Backup auf zweite Festplatte

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe mir einen Server mit zwei gleich großen Festplatten (80 GB) einrichten lassen, als Beztribessystem nutze ich SuSE 8.2.
Die zweite festplatte soll als reine 1:1 Backup Festplatte dienen.

Dazu hätte ich ein paar Fragen, vielleicht kann mir ja jemand helfen:

1.) In welcher Form sollte ich die Backups durchführen (damit meine ich mit "tar" oder "cp" etc. oder gibt es da <die> Alternative?)? Z.Z. wären das ca. 2-3 GB am Tag, die durch das Backup laufen würden. Das wid natürlich immer mehr, ich würde das ganze per Cronjob um ca. 04:00 Uhr starten lassen. Ist das so sinnvoll?

2.) Diese Frage hat zwar jetzt nicht direkt mit Backups zu tun, aber ich schreibees mal hier dazu, da ich kein besser passendes Forum gefunden habe:
Wie spreche ich die zweite Festplatte an?? Ich weiß, dass das jetzt blöd klingt, aber ich verstehe da einiges nicht:

Laut Support aus dem Rechenzentrum ist meine 2. Festplatte als "Secondary Master installiert, damit ist sie unter Linux als hdc ansprechbar". Soweit so gut, das hatte ich erwartet.

Dann kamen die Widersprüche:

Auf den Befehl

bekomme ich als Antwort

Allerdings kan ich die zweite HD nicht mounten:

Kann mir jemand weiterhelfen? Vielen Dank schon im Voraus!

Es sieht so aus als hättest du gar keine zweite Platte. Zur Sicherheit kannst du noch mal in den /var/log/messages die Meldungen vom Booten dir anschauen und nach der Festplattenerkennung suchen.

So eine Mail an das Rechnzentrum hat die Sache geklärt. Ich bekam zwar keine Begründung, aber dafür geht es jetzt. Danke für Eure Hilfe!!

Wie gehe ich jetzt am besten vor, um eine große 80GB Partition auf der zweiten HD zu erstellen?

Könnt Ihr vielleicht noch ein paar Tipps zu meiner ersten Frage geben?

4 Uhr ist nicht gerade sinnvoll

Ansonsten siehe FAQ (Backup2l), braucht bei mir fast 6 Std..

mach mal ein cfdisk /dev/hdc und erzeuge einfach eine neue Partition

Ich würde ext3 vorschlagen..

Dann haben sie dir jetzt deine Platte eingebaut....
Partitionen erstellst du mit

fdisk /dev/hdc
mit m erhältst du eine Liste der Befehle.
Mit mkfs.<Dateisystem> kannst du die Partitionen dann formatieren. (Also mkfs.ext2, mkfs.ext3, mkfs.reiserfs)

Wenn die zweite Festplatte ein genauso lauffähiges System enthalten soll, könntest du auch ein Software-RAID 1 (mirroring) machen. Sämtliche Daten werden beim Schreiben leicht zeitversetzt auf beide Platten geschrieben und die Platten werden immer in sync gehalten. Wenn dann eine Platte ausfällt läuft der Rootie immer noch weiter.

Genaueres findest du in der Hilfe zu den entsprechenden Kernel-Optionen und den raidtools.

Ich habe jetzt eine 80GB-ext3-Partition, alles klappt wunderbar :-D

Ich werde jetzt mal Backup2l ausprobieren, hört sich gut an.

Aber braucht das packen nicht viel Ressourcen? Ich meine, eigentlich habe ich ja eine ganze 80GB-Festplatte, wieso also noch packen?
